Recent Events:Purim
Purim Party
By Madelene Weinberger
Purim has come and gone, and what a great event it was for Congregation Sha’are Shalom!! First, we had the Hamantaschen sales. It was a record year for us. We baked 109 dozen, or 1,308 Hamantaschen; believe me that’s a lot. A special thank-you to my co-bakers: Sandy Blake, Elaine McVinney, Jackie Schoch, Joan Troncoso, and
Lynn Weinberger. We were baking for approximately 8 hours. Six very tired, but happy, women left the synagogue that evening. The sale of Purim Baskets was also a record year. Last year we sold 248 baskets, this year 452. Purim concluded at Sha’are Shalom with a party. Several adults joined the children in coming in costume. Everyone had fun trying to guess who the person was supposed to be.
THE PURIM COMMITTEE HOPES THAT EVERYONE THAT RECEIVED A BASKET, PURCHASED HAMANETACHEN, OR CAME TO THE PARTY ENJOYED IT.
WE WANT TO SAY A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT PURCHASED BASKETS. WE CAN PLAN EVENTS BUT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE CONGREGATION, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN, AND YOU MADE THE BASKET SALES A BIG SUCCESS.
Everyone Has a Story!
The National Museum of American Jewish Military History in Washington, DC will be hosting two events, Sunday, May 20 and Sunday, June 3, entitled “Family Stories.” Our “Family Stories” series will provide participants a great opportunity to come in and discuss a special family member or person in their life through any artistic mean they choose.
Feel free to forward the information below to anyone interested or post it on a bulletin board at your organization. If you wish to participate or have further questions, please contact Brian Ahern, Museum Programs Intern, or Mary Westley, Assistant Administrator/ Programs Coordinator. Contact Brian at
