Summer is starting and we have really been busy at Sha’are Shalom. On June 4th if you heard some loud laughing it was only us at the Auction and Spaghetti Dinner. I am sure Madelene Weinberger will have an article in this newsletter about the event. It was a great time. Thanks to Madelene and the Outreach Committee for doing such a great job.
The Brigadoon Tea was great. It was nice to see some gentlemen at the tea and it looked like they were having a good time.
Olivia Hoy’s Bat Mitzvah was on June 11th and she did a wonderful job. It was nice to see that we can use the patio for the Oneg.
We are on our summer schedule for services and this would be a great time for our young adults that have been Bar/Bat Mitzvah to lead a Friday service. Please let Pat Myers at myerspat@gmail.com if you are interested in leading a Friday night service.
Starting with the month of June to the end of September, Sha’are Shalom will be operating on the Summer Schedule for Services. Services will be on the 2nd Sat and the 4th Friday of the month.
Check out the newsletter for more events that are happening in July. Remember to bring your friends and enjoy the fun.
Shalom,
Jackie

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I have to say while I am sitting here at my computer on a Saturday morning writing this article a lot of things are running through my head. I guess the biggest part is thinking about the 1st Shabbat Dinner at our synagogue that we had last night. If you weren’t there you missed a great event. Hopefully you will be able to come to the next one. The tables were beautiful, the dinner was GREAT and the fellowship was just out of this world. It just makes me think of all those years we cooked hot dogs in the heat as one of our fundraisers to get to this point in the Life of Sha’are Shalom.
Speaking of fundraising, which Sha’are Shalom will always be doing, we have some great ones coming up. Look for the articles about the Purim Baskets and Hamantaschen.
Please mark your calendar for the Annual Membership Meeting on May 14th after service and oneg luncheon. This year we will be electing a Vice-President, Treasurer and a new position Financial Secretary. The duties of these positions are listed below.

Volunteer teen cantor leads prayers
Southern Maryland Newspaper article features Sha’are Shalom’s own Valerie Holt. “…An actress who has played the title role in Tantallon’s “The Diary of Anne Frank” and starred as Scout in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” among other roles, Valerie brings a gravitas to her role as cantor. “Here you have to be more serious,” she said shortly before a Friday night service. “It’s not all about you…” Read entire article
