Scout Shabbat Celebration

Scout Shabbat Celebration

During Saturday morning Services on Feb 12, Scout Shabbat was held. Scout Shabbat is conducted around the world in February for Boy Scouts and March for Girl Scouts. These are considered the birth months of Scouting. Boy Scouts was founded in 1910 by Baden Powell and Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low. One program just completed its Centennial year while another begins it. A true testament to the program it has offered youth over the years and continues into the future.

Mitchell and Noah Kanter represented Cub Scouts, Eric Richman the Boy Scouts while Abby Richman and Valerie Holt represented the Girl Scouts. All Scouts opened the Service with the pledge of allegiance to the flag and recited their Scout Promise.

It was also very nice to see six other current adult Scouters and former Scouts in uniform.
All Scouts were presented Scout Shabbat patches and all former Scouts and Scouters (adult volunteers) were recognized during the Service. Stu Richman read a few words on how a Scout follows the last point of the Scout Law (A Scout is reverent) when being outdoors.

Noah and Mitchell Kanter also showed off their Scout skills by demonstrating the proper way to fold the American flag.

Jonah Richmond led the Service with a special Service booklet which contained a tribute not only to Debbie Friedman, but also to Scouts. All the youth Scouts in attendance participated in the Service.
