President’s Message – August 2012

I hope everybody is having a wonderful summer. I know Randy and I have done a lot of traveling just in the last few weeks. Randy and I want to thank everyone who sent cards, emails or talked to us in person about Randy’s Aunt Ag who passed away in July.
Aunt Ag, who was 100½ years old, will be missed dearly.

Here it is August and summer is almost over. Soon stu-dents will be heading to schools and to colleges. Speak-ing of schools, Congregation Sha’are Shalom has started a School Supplies Drive for the Children’s Aid Society here in Waldorf. There is a blue box as you come in front of the synagogue for all school supplies. About 300 families come to the Children’s Aid Society looking for school supplies. This is one of many events that we do to support families here in Charles County. So when you see some school supplies, pick up some extras for this worthy cause. Contact Linda Thomas if you have any questions: 240-776-4366 or [email protected]

In the newsletter this month is an article called Sha’are Shalom Event Calendar from August 2012 to August 2013. Please look over the calendar and check out the events that are coming up. Please keep checking future newsletters for more events that might have been added. We thought this would be a good opportunity for every-one to see what is happening in advance so you can mark your calendar or even invite some friends to attend an event. If you see something that you would like to help with, just call the leader of the event or call Jackie 301-567-6760.

Check in the newsletter this month for articles written by two of our ladies from the Confirmation Class, Olivia Hoy and Daphne McCright. These speeches were left out of June’s newsletter.

In June, Madelene Weinberger and I had the honor of representing Sha’are Shalom at a Small Congregation Meeting held by the URJ in Harrisburg, PA. About 25 were present from congregations all over the East Coast. Although URJ considers congregations of 250 families and under as small, there were other congregations pre-sent who were in the 30-family range, like us. I am so glad that we went to this meeting. We learned a lot and made new friends at the same time.

Check out the newsletter for more information on things that are happening at Sha’are Shalom and come join us.
Shalom,
Jackie
