Eichmann Interrogated

Transcripts from the Archives of the Israeli Police

If you wish to better understand the World War II Nazi mass murders, the book, the record of Adolf Eichmann’s pretrial testimony is indispensable. When the Weimar democracy collapsed, all legal protection was lost by German Jewry. The foundation stone of the Third Reich was the hatred of Jews.
Under Der Führer, Adolph Hitler, killing Jews was not illegal. Therefore Eichmann could, therefore, claim he had not acted illegally. Not even Hitler can be proven legally guilty, for there was no documents existed to link him to the “Final Solution”. Es ist des Fürhrers Wunsch (It is the Führer’s Wish). was the word that went out. Hitler wanted Jews to be exterminated. His wish was tantamount to an order. He was obeyed, and thus legal responsibility was completely dispersed. There was a crime, but there were no criminals. The demonic genius of this political achievement has been described by people easily satisfied with formulas as “the banality of evil.”

Nine days after his capture in suburban Buenos Aires in May 1960, Eichman was flow to Israel and turned over to the Israeli police. Between May 1960 and February 1961 (two months before the start of Eichmann’s trial in April 1961) he was interrogated by Captain Avner Less for a total of 275 hours (and a written transcript of 3,564 pages).

The book focuses on Eichmann’s account of the scope and nature of Nazi crimes and on his efforts to project an image of himself that world could not condemn.. This book is a compelling read and can be found in the library with a call number of 736.3 / Vol Lan.
