Abby and Eric Richman at the Soap Box Derby
In early June, Abby and Eric Richman participated in the local Washington DC All-American Soap Box Derby Race held on Capitol Hill. Some participants build their cars each year, but we were able to borrow cars that were already constructed. There are 3 divisions, Stock, Super Stock and Masters.
Abby raced in the traditional sit-up Super Stock car while Eric raced in a lay-down Masters car. In the Master’s car, the participant can’t be seen, only the tops of their helmeted heads can be seen. They raced down Constitution Ave. in front of Capitol Hill. The use of Capitol Hill by the Soap Box Derby organizers requires a resolution of Congress each year.
This year, Eric earned third place while Abby’s car was a bit slower and didn’t place. (Last year, they were in opposite cars and Abby took third). The first place winners represent DC at the National Championship in Akron, Ohio.
