FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
re: SECURITY BREIFING

I spoke to the Charles County Sheriff Deputy in charge of the security briefing today.  As of today, 14 Nov, we have about 10 in house and 3 or 4 Zoom participants. For them that was a pretty small group, but they could do something for us if we could work out the logistics.  I asked for 5 or 6 Dec at 7PM. They would prefer in the afternoon if possible and maybe after all the holidays. Sgt McCue then suggested they could prepare a package for us with hints, suggestions, graphics & reminders, etc., so we could send it out to all our members and they could look at it at their leisure.  Currently that sounds good to me, but I have not committed to anything yet, including scheduling a date for a live presentation. I am asking for input from our members on how they feel. Please email me at [email protected] with your opinions and thoughts.

Thanks,
Marv Cohen

Interfaith Vigil for Peace – November 26 @ 5 pm

Dear Faith Leader in Charles County –

The Interfaith Commission of Charles County is planning an interfaith prayer vigil to pray for peace – peace in the Middle East, peace among people of all faiths, peace for Jews and Muslims the world over facing more discrimination and violence.

We will host this event on Sunday, November 26 at 5 pm, using a “reverse hybrid” format. What does that mean? We will host the Vigil in an actual space and stream it to Zoom and Facebook Live. We hope local faith communities will host “viewing gatherings” for their members and neighbors at their meeting spaces – in this way, people could come together with others, but would not be limited to one geographical location. Folks could also join on Zoom or Facebook from their homes – many options.

I would love a reply from you by Wednesday, November 15, letting me know two things:

  1. Would your faith community like to host a gathering – and if so, may we list it in publicity so others could join you? (You can elect to keep it closed to your members.)
  2. Would you like to participate in the program, offering a prayer, or reading a small piece of scripture from your religious tradition? You could do that from the church hosting the livestream (probably Christ Church in La Plata), or you could participate from Zoom.
We will offer some guidelines to ensure that this event is a safe space for everyone – this will not be an occasion for voicing our opinions about what is going on in the world or in our community, but for lifting our hearts in prayer and seeking unity as people of faith beyond our differences. And we will have someone monitoring the Zoom feed. I hope you will be a part of it.

    Blessings,

    Rev. Kate
