Here is your Hebrew word of the month!
So far, we have learned the words Shalom, meaning “peace” and also used as a greeting, and the word Shabbat, the day of rest. We put them together to get Shabbat Shalom, a greeting wishing people a pleasant sabbath day.
For this month our word is Sha-ar:
שער
Sha-ar is a Gate. Sha-a-rim means Gates, and
Sha-a-ray means “Gates of”:
שערי
Put Sha-a-ray together with our first word, Shalom, and we get a very familiar expression: Sha-a-ray Shalom. Sha-a-ray Shalom, the name our synagogue, is Gates of Peace!
