Our services and Remembrance Program on April 10th was a very special event. We were honored to have in attendance, Ellen Cohen, Alice Lebowitz and Morris Kornberg. All three of these individuals witnessed first hand the things that we have only read about. The program began with Pat Myers and Valerie Holt singing “Yedid Nefesh.” There were special readings by Linda Thomas, Pamela Green and Michele Uhler. Pamela Green and Suzanne Darby told us about the heroic efforts of two rescuers, Dr Lazowski and Irene Sendler.
It was especially moving to hear Elaine McVinney read a letter from her grandmother. In the letter Mrs. Kaluski gave a vivid account of how her life in Germany changed before she was able to immigrate to the United States.
The wonderful stories and letter was topped off by Jonie McCright singing a song she wrote “Into the Darkness (The Secret in My Attic). Jonie, I think you should record that. And then we were treated to our very own band playing “Eili, Eili.” What a treat!! The band members, Amanda Kahn, Shelby Green, and Mara and Jonah Casebeer were truly wonderful. Thank you Jasha for working with the band.
After the program, the Women’s Group treated us to a very special luncheon. They served falafel, Israeli Salad, Couscous with grilled vegetables, kugel, tuna salad, egg salad, gelfite fish and herring. Not to mention the wonderful desserts. Thank you Ellen Cohen, Suzanne Darby, Pamela Green, Elaine McVinney, Linda Thomas, Michele Uhler and Madelene Weinberger.
The Women’s Group would like to thank everyone that participated in the Holocaust Remembrance Program and everyone that came. We think it was one of the best events of the year.
