President’s Message
Jackie Schoch

December was a very busy month for us, and boy did we have fun. The Hanukkah Party was great. We had a graduate student from Bowie University and a reporter from Maryland Independent paper. This was the first time for both of them to be part of a Hanukkah Celebration. I invited them to come to our Passover in April. Speaking of Passover, I just want you to put on your calendar April 19, 2011. More information will be coming in future newsletters and Town Criers.

I am sure Alvin and Ellen Cohen will put an article in the newsletter about the Annual Border’s Gift Wrapping. If you have never done this, next year sign up and enjoy the experience that you will get from wrapping articles and talking to the community of Waldorf. Dec. 24th from 12 noon to 6 pm Olivia Hoy, Alvin and Ellen Cohen’s granddaughter and my granddaughter Alsasha Halt worked wrapping books and gifts at Border’s. They got so many comments from the customers about their volunteering and how good they were at wrapping. Our older children from 12 and up should sign up and enjoy the experience. This is also a good way to earn Community Service Hours for high school students.

The Toy Collection was a big success. The Children’s Aid Society for Charles County really appreciated the donations. I would like to give a “THANK YOU” to everyone that put a gift in the big blue box.

Starting 2011, it was decided by our Board to have three major community service projects each year:

1. Walk for the Homeless

2. Food Bank of Hughesville

3. Children’s Aid Society of Charles County

You will be hearing about these projects in the future months.
