There is no doubt that our religious school students are active and engaged with their Jewish studies as well as the family, sports, music, and academics that fill their busy days. As we have been learning this year, knowing is only half the battle; It is not enough to simply study the ways of the Torah, we must also take what we have learned and apply it to our everyday life, to make right decisions, and to better our communities.
In November, the Religious School was fortunate to participate in the Walk to End Homelessness in Charles County with many of our students taking part in the 3 mile walk. We have also taken part in the cold weather clothing drive, bringing in new and gently used jackets, hats and gloves to support the Children’s Aid Southern Maryland. Thanks to the Women’s Group for helping us get involved, we also volunteered for the Safe Nights Program making bag lunches for a number of homeless families in Southern Maryland. We are blessed to have so many opportunities to give back to our community.
Even though our academic year is well under way, it’s not too late to join the Sha’are Shalom Sunday School! As the newly formed outreach committee makes contact with unaffiliated Jews in Southern Maryland, the religious school looks forward to the possibility of new families joining us as we prepare the next generation of Jews for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and beyond. We have programs for children grades K-7 and teach prayer based Hebrew as well as Jewish studies, crafts, music, social action, and holiday celebrations. Please call or email for more info.
Shalom,
