Massachusetts-based philanthropists Harold Grinspoon and Diane Troderman are pleased to share what makes them “Proudly Jewish.” The six quotes selected for a new poster series they commissioned, along with powerful images and thought-provoking commentaries, inspire and motivate the Grinspoons in their Jewish living and giving. And so they donated these beautiful prints to congregations including Sha’are Shalom to share some of the special values Jews have given the world.
Each month we will display one of the six posters in our Social Hall and in the Gatekeeper. We encourage you to discuss the quote, the picture, and how it affects you. If you send your thoughts to George Gazarek at [email protected], we’ll include them in next month’s Gatekeeper. The first one contains this quote:
Judaism is about sanctifying life.
− Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks
What do you SEE?
– What are all of the ways that “life” is expressed in this poster?
– How is “sanctification” expressed in this image?
– What is unusual about the tree and its setting, and how do these features enrich your understanding of the quote?
What do you THINK?
– Who is responsible for sanctifying life, God or man?
– In what ways do you add holiness to daily life? Are there parts of your daily life that do not feel sanctified? Why?
– Rabbi Sacks states that Judaism is about sanctifying life. How do you complete the sentence: “Judaism is about ___________________________?”
Please send me your thoughts!
