Hebrew Word of the Month

Dave Plich

Here is your Hebrew Word of the Month !

ש מ ח ת   ת ו ר ה

This month we get two new words !  The first word is ת ו ר ה, Torah.  We all know what the Torah is.  The second word is  ש מ ח ה, Simcha, which means Happiness or Joy.  It can also refer to a joyous occasion.

ש מ ח ת, Simchat, is Joy Of.  When we put them together, we get  ת ו ר ה  ש מ ח ת, Simchat Torah, or Joy of the Torah.  We recognize this as the name of the holiday that signifies the end of the long holiday period that started with the High Holidays.

Here is a repeat of September’s Hebrew words:

ר א ש , Rosh, is “Head” or “Beginning”

ש נ ה , Shanah, is “Year”

ה ש נ ה , HaShanah, is “The Year”

ר א ש   ה ש נ ה , Rosh HaShanah, literally is “Head of the Year”, which we know as “New Year”.

I hope everyone had a happy  ר א ש   ה ש נ ה  !
