President’s Message

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I have to say while I am sitting here at my computer on a Saturday morning writing this article a lot of things are running through my head. I guess the biggest part is thinking about the 1st Shabbat Dinner at our synagogue that we had last night. If you weren’t there you missed a great event. Hopefully you will be able to come to the next one. The tables were beautiful, the dinner was GREAT and the fellowship was just out of this world. It just makes me think of all those years we cooked hot dogs in the heat as one of our fundraisers to get to this point in the Life of Sha’are Shalom.

Speaking of fundraising, which Sha’are Shalom will always be doing, we have some great ones coming up. Look for the articles about the Purim Baskets and Hamantaschen.

Please mark your calendar for the Annual Membership Meeting on May 14th after service and oneg luncheon. This year we will be electing a Vice-President, Treasurer and a new position Financial Secretary. The duties of these positions are listed below.

Vice-President shall assume the President’s duties in the event the President’s absence. He/she shall act as the coordinator of the various committees; coordinate onegs; maintain the Congregational Calendar of Events; and is the point of contact for the Building Use Agreement.

Financial Secretary shall present to the Board for approval an annual budget for the following fiscal year and will monitor income and expenses reported by the Treasurer for compliance with the approved budget. He/She will recommend to the Board appropriate dues and fee structure and resolve any dues or fee issues with a member on behalf of the Board maintaining to the maximum extent possible the privacy of individual members. The Financial Secretary shall monitor the investment of non-operational and reserve funds to ensure the best use of those funds. The Financial Secretary shall review any and all financial reviews ensuring any discrepancies and/or recommendations are addressed by the Treasurer and presented to the Board.

Treasurer shall have the custody of and be responsible for all organizational funds and shall keep full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements in the books of Sha’are Shalom. He/she shall deposit all monies or other valuable effects in the name of Sha’are Shalom in such depositories as shall be selected by the Treasurer and approved by the Board of Directors.

The Treasurer shall disburse the funds of the congregation as may be ordered by the Board of Directors, or its delegate, taking proper vouchers for such disbursements, and shall render an account of the financial condition of the congregation at all meetings of the general membership and of the Board of Directors.

It has come a time when we needed to update our By-Laws, so there will be voting on the New By-Laws. You will be receiving either by email or by old fashion mail a copy of the new By-Laws that will be voted on at the Annual Membership Meeting. All members should be receiving this sometime in April. If you do not receive a copy, please let me know and I will make sure you receive one.
