Purim Baskets

Mishloach Manot also called Purim Baskets are gifts of food and drink that is sent to friends and relatives. The mitzvah of giving Mishloach Manot is spelled out in the Book of Esther, which instructs the Jewish People to observe the days of Purim as ―days of feasting and gladness, and sending portions of food to one another …

For the first time, Congregation Sha’are Shalom is putting together the Purim Baskets as a fund raiser. We will offer an adult and child’s basket. A picture of the adult basket is at the end of this article. The adult basket will contain grape juice, chocolate, almonds, tea and hamantaschen. The child’s will have hot chocolate mix, popcorn, hamantaschen, Hershey’s miniatures and skittles. The price of each basket is $5.

A gift card will be attached to the basket showing the name of the recipient and the name of the person sending the basket. If several people order a basket for the same person, only one basket will be sent but the gift card will list the name of each person that ordered a
basket for that person.

The baskets will be available for pick up at Friday night’s service, February 26 and at the Purim Party, Sunday the 28th. If the recipient cannot make either of these events, the basket will be delivered. Delivery applies to the local area only.

The deadline for ordering the baskets is February 19th. You can place an order by calling Madelene at 301-374-6762 or email her at m.weinberger@comcast.net When ordering, please specify an adult or child’s basket. Payment for the baskets must be submitted with the
order. Please make checks payable to Sha’are Shalom. Don’t pass up this opportunity to make someone’s day!!
