Scout Shabbat

During Services on Friday Feb 27, Scout Shabbat was held. Scout Shabbat is conducted around the world during the month of February as part of the Scouting birth month celebration. The Scouting movement was started 100 years ago by Baden-Powell and February is considered the birth month of Scouting.

Mitchell and Noah Kanter represented Cub Scouts and Eric Richman represented Boy Scouts. The boys opened up the Service with the pledge of allegiance to the flag; they recited their Scout Oath and then lit the Shabbat candles.

The boys were presented Scout Shabbat patches and all former Scouts and Scouters (adult volunteers) were recognized during the Service. Stu Richman read a few words by the founder of the scouting movement, Baden Powell, on how he saw the connection between Scouting and Religion.
It was a pleasant surprise to see how many former Scouts and current Scout volunteers are part of our Congregation. A Scout Shabbat patch was also presented to Bob Locke who attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Only about 4% of Scouts attain this prestigious rank.
